DLF INTERNATIONAL SEEDS PROVIDES GRASS SEED FOR TWO WORLD-WIDE SPORTING EVENTS

HALSEY, OREGON – JUNE 11, 2010   A live audience of over 26 billion is expected for the 2010 World Cup South Africa which starts today and runs through July 11, 2010. More than a billion viewers will be watching the games at home, many on high definition televisions, so the quality of the turf on each of the pitches needs to be absolutely pristine. That’s why each of the match stadiums and training pitches have been overseeded with the highest quality seed in the world produced by DLF International Seeds.

DLF International Seeds is providing a majority of the turf seed, over fifty percent, for the soccer stadiums. The seed that’s being used is a mixture of Derby Xtreme perennial ryegrass and Rhythm Kentucky bluegrass. Both of these varieties were selected for their dark green color, high shoot density and high wear tolerance. Axcella 2, a turf-type annual ryegrass, is the only grass seed being used for repair once the games have started. Axcella 2 was chosen for its ability to establish quickly and recover rapidly.

In addition to the World Cup, DLF International Seeds is providing all of the grass seed for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games which will be held in the US for the first time ever this year. DLF provided over 20,000 pounds of seed for the cross country course and marathon driving exibition at the the games which will be held in Lexington, Kentucky.

”It is a huge recognition of our expertise,” says Steve Reid, Chief Breeder for DLF International Seeds. “It also proves that we have a range of grass seed varieties that can compare with the very best varieties on the market. It is a real pat on the back for our breeders and experts at DLF. We can be really proud of this.”

It’s no surprise that each of these events selected varieties from DLF International Seeds. DLF is no stranger to famous stadiums and golf courses. Their seed has often been used on the Super Bowl fields as far back as 1979. Most of that seed is grown right here in the Willamette Valley where more than half of the world’s cool-season grasses are produced.

DLF International Seeds is a member of the DLF Trifolium Group, which is the world’s largest producer and marketer of grass and clover seed. The US branch is located in Halsey, Oregon. They also have two US research farms - one in Philomath, Oregon and the other in Berry, Kentucky. DLF International Seeds provides the world’s finest turf and forage seeds and they are proud to represent the Oregon seed industry at both of these prestigious events.
